You get to decide how you feel

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

-Eleanor Roosevelt

A disappointed look.
A snide remark.
A dismissive tone…

These tiny quips may seem harmless on their own, but cumulatively, they can be painful and more importantly, begin to interfere with the way you see yourself and the world around you.

Here’s the thing…

These biting communications really aren’t about you. They are about them – their fears, their expectations, their view of the world.

Of course you need to be honest with yourself which, at times, may mean that you have to own your sh*t too.

And that’s OK.

This isn’t about being right or wrong.  This is about respect.

And what you permit, you promote.  You actually train people how to treat you by the way you respond to them.

So, if you have relationships where the power feels out of balance, where you feel small or like you’re walking on eggshells all the time, start looking at the way you’re choosing to respond.

What stories are you telling yourself that allow you to accept all the put downs?

Picture someone you truly admire.  How might they respond in the same situation?

From here it’s all about choice.  No one can make you feel anything – inferior or otherwise – without your consent.

WRITING & REFLECTION:

IS THERE SOMEONE IN YOUR LIFE THAT HAS HISTORICALLY MADE YOU FEEL INFERIOR, GUILTY, SHAMEFUL, SMALL…?

IF YES, WHAT WILL BE POSSIBLE WHEN YOU DECIDE TO OWN YOUR TRUTH AND CHOOSE HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL?
